狛犬

A pair of mythical creatures placed at the entrance of a shrine to ward off evil and protect the enshrined deity.
Their origin is believed to be lions from Egypt and India.
Typically, the mouths of the left and right guardian dogs (komainu) are shaped in "A" (open) and "Un" (closed) positions.
