神明神社
Located in the northern Oide area on the southern side of Tatsuno Town.
Nearby is Myokoji Temple, and the shrine is situated in an area with narrow, winding roads.
The approach to the shrine is marked by a stone staircase surrounded by a cedar grove.
Shimmei Shrine is known for the Tengu Festival held during the autumn festival, which is designated as a cultural property of Tatsuno Town. The performance of tengu and lion dances during the festival is recognized as a unique and curious event.
At the top of the long stone staircase stands the worship hall (haiden) adorned with chigi and katsuogi. It is a large irimoya-style building, with a front canopy featuring the same chigi and katsuogi decorations as the main structure. The main hall (honden) is stored within a protective structure behind the haiden.
Shibamiya Shrine, located beside the haiden, was originally in a different location but was merged with Shimmei Shrine during the Meiji period.
It is a one-bay nagare-zukuri structure featuring a show stand (misetana) with a wooden shelf attached to the front. The eaves are supported by simple spars, and the carved ends of the crossbeams (kashira nuki) have different shapes on the left and right.
The structure is adorned with painted decorations, and it is considered one of the oldest shrine buildings in Tatsuno, second only to the Miyagi Suwa Shrine.
