手長神社
9556 Kami-Suwa, Suwa City
Tenaga Shrine is located on a hillside near Kami-Suwa Station. The narrow streets of Suwa make it advisable to plan your route if visiting by car. Formerly known as Tenaga-gu or Tenaga Daimyojin, it was revered as the guardian shrine of the Suwa domain.
At the entrance stands a wooden torii gate, with a chozuya beside it. Climbing the stone steps, you reach the worship hall, a Suwa City cultural property. Built by Tatekawa Tomitake and Ito Shozaemon, it resembles Suwa Taisha's worship halls, with intricate carvings by Tatekawa Tomitake.
The unadorned wood structure highlights carvings of dragons and phoenixes, characteristic of Tatekawa Tomitake's style.
The main hall, in the shinmei-zukuri style, stands behind the worship hall and is relatively modest in size.
