白山神社
Tono, Ōkuwa Village, Kiso District
Ōkuwa Village, with the Kiso River flowing through it and old Nakasendō post towns, is home to Hakusan Shrine in the Tono district. The shrine, located on a steep mountainside, features stone torii gates and steps leading up to the shrine buildings. These buildings, including a gabled main hall and four sanctuaries covered by a protective structure, date back to the Kamakura period and were built by Tachibana Muneshige.
The main hall of Hakusan Shrine is distinguished by its intricate design, such as dense rafters and a detailed doorway. It is the oldest Shinto shrine building in Nagano Prefecture, designated as a National Important Cultural Property.
