東堀正八幡宮
Shibamiya, Higashibori, Okaya City
Shouhachimangu Shrine, located in the Higashibori area of Okaya City, next to the Shibamiya Hall.
The shrine buildings are surrounded by a deep, dark grove.
The torii gate is on the north side of the shrine grounds.
A stone myojin torii stands, with a hand-washing basin (temizuya) on the left and a subordinate shrine on the right.
Continuing straight ahead, one reaches the stage house with a green roof.
The stage house is an end-gabled building constructed in the An'ei era.
The worship hall is in the "Mikadoya-kei" style, seen in the Suwa Taisha series.
The worship hall has a door at the back, a feature also seen at the Okkoto Suwa Shrine in Fujimi Town.
There are side worship halls on both sides.
The construction is by the Osumi school, with carvings on various parts.
The main hall at the back is a simple wooden structure, built in the style of a single-bay nagare-zukuri with a copper roof.
It is surrounded by a fence, with Edo period styles evident in the carved elephant heads on the forward eaves beam.
