鉾持神社
1600 Nishitakato, Takato Town, Ina City
Hokomochi Shrine was founded in 721 AD by Kojiro no Takemochi, who enshrined deities from Izu, Hakone, and Mishima. It served as the guardian shrine of Takato Castle and was highly revered by local lords and feudal lords.
The shrine's torii gate stands among residential areas, leading to a long stone staircase with a purification basin at the base.
Ascending the stairs, one passes through two torii gates before reaching the shrine precincts.
After ascending the long stone steps, there is a broad area paved with stone leading to another set of steps. At the top stands the worship hall, enclosed by a red-painted fence. The contrast from the open space to the enclosed area creates a quiet and somewhat eerie atmosphere.
