田中八幡宮
3629 Shishiba, Oaza Iinuma, Kamigo, Iida City
Tanaka Hachiman Shrine stands amidst the fields and rice paddies in Iida City.
A Myojin Torii gate stands on the approximately 200-meter approach road surrounded by fruit trees and rice fields.
Originally known as Hachiman Shrine, it was a village shrine enshrining three deities.
Upon entering the shrine grounds, a large sacred tree stands to the right.
Designated as a natural monument of Nagano Prefecture, this magnificent cedar tree is over 800 years old.
The main hall, located within an enclosure, is a Sangen-sha Nagare-zukuri style structure.
It was built in the mid-Edo period, featuring notable characteristics such as the long necks of the Karajishi on the front and the robust wooden nose, traits often seen in carpenters from Mikawa.
Although it was too dim to see the details inside, the hall is known for its many carvings, including waves and carp in place of traditional frog leg supports.
