飯沼諏訪神社
2959 Kamigo Iinuma, Iida City
Suwa Shrine in Iinuma, Iida City, greets visitors with its long stone steps.
Over 300 steps.
Worshippers climb the steps, sometimes pausing to catch their breath and looking down at the steps they have ascended.
During the cherry blossom season, you can climb while petals fall around you.
In April of the Onbashira year, thick logs are hauled up these steps.
At the top of the stone steps, the shrine grounds feature a Myojin Torii gate leading to the approach.
The worship hall is an irimoya-zukuri style building.
Behind it is the main hall enclosed within an outer structure.
Many shrines in the Iida City area are built in this manner.
