八幡神社

The Hachiman Shrine is located on a small hill right after passing the border between Anan Town and Shimojo Village. The narrow road leading to the shrine is known as "Furujou Hachiman" due to its historical association with a former castle site.

It is said that the shrine was originally built by Shimojo Yorisada as a guardian shrine for his residence during the Jōō era and later moved to its current location by Shimojo Iesada.

The stone steps leading to the Hachiman Shrine begin alongside a narrow road, ascending about 20 steps to a stone torii gate. The steps are uneven and can be hazardous, especially in dim light or unstable conditions. Upon climbing the steps, the shrine buildings, surrounded by trees, come into view.

The shrine grounds include a small building resembling an office and a gabled roof structure housing the main shrine hall. There are no other notable buildings on the site. The main shrine hall and a subsidiary Suwa Shrine hall are located within the covered structure, though the interiors were not visible.

The main hall of Hachiman Shrine stands on a foundation, with the pillars and foundation being made of new materials, likely replaced during multiple repairs. The Suwa Shrine, built similarly, is slightly smaller and features simplified decorations, including "hawk and mandarin" carvings typical of Suwa shrines.
