栗矢八幡社
Kuriya, Achi Village, Shimoina District
The road from Achi Village to Shimojo passes by Kuriyahachiman Shrine. Located along this route, the shrine is closely connected to the local community. A wide road runs beside the shrine grounds, which include a plaza likely used for gateball and children's play.
Kuriyahachiman Shrine houses two main halls. One enshrines Honda Wake no Mikoto (Homuda Wake no Mikoto) of Hachiman Shrine, and the other enshrines Hiwasu no Mikoto (Hiwasu no Mikoto). Both halls are housed within a protective structure behind the worship hall and are not visible from outside. Numerous wooden shrines can also be seen beside the worship hall.
Inside the protective structure, the right hall enshrines Hachiman God, and the left hall enshrines Hiwasu no Mikoto. Both are single-bay flowing style structures with chidori gables and dragon carvings on the railing panels. Hachiman worship was popular in the late Edo period, and almost every village in the Achi area enshrined Hachiman.
