岩上神社
614 Yanagisawa Otsu, Ichinomiya Town, Awaji, Hyogo Prefecture
Iwakami Shrine was enshrined in 1541 from the Ishigami Shrine in Nara. Several huge rocks stand above the shrine.
Among them is the Koraishi Rock, which is about 12 meters high and has a shape similar to an egg. It is believed to have been an object of worship even before the shrine was built.
Nearby, there is the Iwakami Temple and Kannon Hall, from which stone steps lead to the shrine grounds.
The worship hall is a flat-roofed building with an open design, featuring no walls on the front and sides.
The plaque reads "Iwakami Daimyojin." To the left of the hall, stone steps lead up to the Koraishi Rock.
The main hall, located behind the worship hall, is believed to have been relocated from Tatsuta Shrine in Nara in 1541.
In 2003, it underwent disassembly and repair, revealing its vivid colors.
It features a single-span Sumiki-iri Kasuga-zukuri style with a gabled roof, topped with chigi and three katsuogi.
The ornate brackets with "A-un" carvings are particularly striking.
The hall is surrounded by a veranda on three sides, with side screens on both sides. The walls are decorated with large pine tree paintings, creating a strong impression.
The shape of the large central pillar on the rear gable features techniques from the Muromachi period.
Overall, the building is noted for its vivid colors.
