伊佐爾波神社

Located in Dogo Onsen, this shrine is known as Yugetsu Hachimangu or Dogo Hachiman.
The exact date of its establishment is not known, but it is said to have been built on the site of the temporary palace where Empress Jingu and Emperor Chuai stayed during their visit to Dogo Onsen.
Originally, it was located at the foot of the mountain where Dogo Park is now, but it was moved to its current location in the 14th century when the Kono clan, who ruled Iyo Province, built Yuzuki Castle.

Climbing the stone steps, you will find an Important Cultural Property, the two-story gate, painted entirely in red.
The gable’s frog-leg brackets have bird carvings, and the transom has a dragon carving, both vividly colored.
The two-story bracketing is mitosis, and the roof has onigawara tiles.
The corridor extends from both sides of the gate, enclosing the main hall.

The main hall is a Hachiman-zukuri style surrounded by a corridor.
This unique architectural style, with two connected gabled roofs, is found only in Usa Hachimangu and Iwashimizu Hachimangu, in addition to this shrine.
The front hall, in nagare-zukuri style, serves as the outer sanctuary, while the rear hall, in kirizuma-zukuri style, is the inner sanctuary.
Each of the three doors at the front has steps, with vividly colored guardian dogs on either side.
The hall has a surrounding veranda and side screens.
The gate and the main hall are connected by a hallway and a shrine office, forming an integrated structure.
