安仁神社
895 Ichinomiya, Saidaiji, Higashi-ku, Okayama, Okayama Prefecture
Anini Shrine, built as the former Ichinomiya of Bizen Province.
In 939 AD, during the Tengyo no Ran, the battle between Fujiwara Sumitomo and the Imperial Court, Anini Shrine sided with the Fujiwara clan, resulting in the revocation of its Ichinomiya status. The status was transferred to Kibitsu-hiko Shrine, which had split from Kibitsu Shrine, the Ichinomiya of Bitchu Province, who sided with the Imperial Court.
Currently, the shrine stands halfway up a small hill surrounded by rice fields in a quiet village, although it was originally located at the hilltop.
After a fire in 1344, it was rebuilt in its current location by the Ikeda clan of the Bizen Domain in the Edo period.
The first and second torii are stone myojin torii.
An unpaved approach road leads from the first torii, with stone steps continuing after passing through the second torii.
A gabled shinmon gate stands halfway along the approach, and the worship hall is further up the stone steps.
Behind the irimoya-style worship hall is the gabled main hall, surrounded by a chūmon gate and tamagaki fence.
The roof features katsuogi and chigi, and the medium-sized building spans three bays by two bays.
The hall lacks noticeable color or carvings.
Flanking the main hall are several auxiliary shrines, and behind it is a worship site for Ise Shrine.
