高野神社
601 Ninomiya, Tsuyama City, Okayama Prefecture
Takano Shrine, the second-ranked shrine of Mimasaka Province, is located in Tsuyama City, Okayama Prefecture.
Built on a small hill surrounded by a sacred grove, the shrine has a torii gate about 300 meters away from the main hall.
At the bottom of the stone steps leading to the shrine grounds stands the Zuishin Gate, reportedly constructed in Kenkyu 2 (1191).
The spacious shrine grounds feature an irimoya-style worship hall, with the main hall situated behind it and a subordinate shrine on the left.
The main hall is built in the Nakayama-zukuri style, characterized by an irimoya roof with a gabled entrance porch unique to Mimasaka Province.
This architectural style can also be seen in the main halls of Ichinomiya Nakayama Shrine and Mimasaka Sosha Shrine.
The subordinate shrines on the grounds include Misaki Shrine and Ryujin Shrine.
The main halls of these shrines feature a mix of nagare-zukuri and irimoya-zukuri styles.
This combination of styles is common in the Tsuyama area, not just at Takano Shrine.
