小坂神社
2578 Inoue-machi, Suzaka City
Kosaka Shrine is located in Inoue, Suzaka City, surrounded by the village and fruit orchards.
It is said that Yoritsugu Inoue, the founder of the Genji clan in Shinano Province, built a residence around Kosaka Shrine and enshrined Hachiman from Kyoto, hence the shrine is also called Hachimangu.
A large wooden ryobu torii gate stands at the front of the shrine.
The torii has a relatively new look, with groves of sacred trees extending on both sides.
The worship hall is an irimoya-zukuri with a flat entrance.
Flanked by guardian dogs, the main hall stands behind it, surrounded by a sacred fence (mizugaki).
The main hall is a single-bay nagare-zukuri.
It is elevated about 2 meters off the ground, with visible eaves.
A veranda runs around the building, equipped with a balustrade but no side screens.
Tapir carvings adorn the wooden ends, with parts of the eyes and teeth painted red.
Carvings can also be seen on the frog-leg struts at the front and on the beams of the gable ends.
The overall structure is simple and unpainted, showcasing the elegant curves of the nagare-zukuri style.
