Iizuna jinja

Naniai, Nagano City, surrounded by mountains.
Hashizume, where Iizuna Shrine is located, is situated halfway up the mountain, overlooking green slopes.
It is surrounded by fields, and a steep, narrow road runs alongside it.

Iizuna Shrine is believed to have originated from the syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism, born from the mountain worship of Mount Iizuna in the prefecture. It was revered by figures such as the Ashikaga clan and other Sengoku period warlords.
Notably, it is well-known that the statue of Iizuna Gongen was mounted on the crest of Uesugi Kenshin's helmet.

A wooden Myojin torii gate stands, and the shrine building is an integrated structure combining the haiden and the enclosure.
To the right is the shrine office, and inside the haiden, the honden, an ichinomiya-style structure, is enshrined.
The honden sits on a stone foundation, with no particularly noticeable decorations.

Surrounded by mountains, it is a very quiet shrine.
