治田神社
1650 Inariyama-machi, Chikuma City
Haruta Shrine stands in the Inariyama and Kuwabara districts.
The shrine in Kuwabara is called Upper Shrine, and the one in Inariyama is called Lower Shrine.
It is said that Prince Hiko founded the shrine in 463 AD during Emperor Yūryaku's reign.
During the Sengoku period, the area was known as Kawanishi Haruta Sho Sarashina-go, and the shrine was highly revered as the main guardian shrine.
In front of the torii gate is Haruta Pond, and the shrine is located in a grove with sunlight filtering through.
The worship hall is a gabled copper-roof structure adorned with chigi and katsuogi.
The main hall, built in the 18th century, is a nagare-zukuri style with similar roof decorations, without side walls, and surrounded by a veranda.
There are several subsidiary shrines around, including Tsushima Shrine and Kitano Tenmangu.
