Mount Ontake, Kengamine

御嶽神社頂上奥社

The shrine is located on Mount Ontake, which stands at an elevation of 3,067 meters.
As the westernmost mountain in Japan to exceed 3,000 meters, it is considered a sacred mountain by practitioners of Shugendo (mountain asceticism), who refer to it as "O no Ontake," a name that eventually evolved into the current name.

At the first station of the mountain is the Sato-gu shrine, and at the fifth station stands Hakkai-san Shrine. Near the trailhead, there is a place of worship.
The eighth station is adorned with numerous stone Buddha statues, and at nearly the same elevation as the main shrine on the southern side of the peak, you'll find the Oku-no-in Shrine. The summit shrine (Okusha), located on the main peak of Kengamine, is a 30-minute climb from the main shrine.
The Oku-no-in houses three sacred statues, while the main shrine features prayer halls and other shrine buildings.
Many worshippers and climbers visit the summit, where statues of deities can also be found.
