Moriya jinja okumiya

Eastern Peak of Mount Moriya

守屋神社奥宮

A shrine located on the eastern peak of Mount Moriya, south of Suwa Taisha.
Although Mount Moriya is sometimes considered the sacred mountain of Suwa Taisha's Upper Shrine, there are no visible connections to the shrine on the mountain itself.
The satomiya (village shrine) of Moriya Shrine is located at Tsuetsuki Pass, which connects Chino City and Ina City, with a hiking trail leading to the eastern peak.
Historically revered as a mountain for rain-making rituals, it is said that during rain ceremonies, the shrine's okumiya (inner sanctuary) would be cast down the mountain to invoke the deity's wrath and bring rain.
Unlike most shrines in the Suwa region, this shrine does not feature the traditional Onbashira pillars.
