木曽駒ヶ嶽神社
Summit of Komagatake
One of the two shrine buildings situated at the summit of Komagatake, the highest peak of the Kiso Mountains in the Central Alps.
The shrine on the Kiso side is called Kiso Komagatake Shrine, while the shrine on the Ina side is known as Ina Komagatake Shrine.
It is said that the shrine was established in 1532 by Tokuhara Haruyasu from Kiso District’s Agematsu Town, located at the base of the mountain.
The shrine building is wooden, featuring a simple gabled structure with chigi and katsuogi roof elements.
Stone guardian dogs (komainu) are placed before the doors, and stone pillars are erected around the site. A Shinmei torii made of logs stands as the entrance to the shrine.
Due to the presence of two shrine buildings at the summit, many climbers make a point to visit both Kiso and Ina Komagatake Shrines as part of their ascent celebrations.
