Mount Kinpu Summit
Mount Kinpu, with an elevation of 2,595 meters.
Near the summit of Mount Kinpu, one of Japan's 100 famous mountains, stands a massive boulder known as Gojoiwa, towering 15 meters high, with a small torii gate and shrine atop it.
Originally, a meditation hall was located on the flat area surrounding Gojoiwa, and the small shrine once housed the deity Zao Gongen.
Mount Kinpu has long been worshipped as a sacred mountain.
At the base of the mountain, in Kawakami Village, Nagano Prefecture, there are three Kinpusan Shrines, and offerings from ascetics, as well as earthenware and prayer beads, have been discovered in the area.
