穂高神社嶺宮
Summit of Mount Okuhotaka
This shrine is located at the summit of Mount Okuhotaka, which stands at an elevation of 3,190 meters, making it the third-highest peak in Japan.
The main shrine (Satomiya) is situated in Hotaka, Azumino City, at Hotaka Shrine, while the inner shrine (Okumiya) is placed near Myojin Pond in Kamikochi.
It is considered the guardian shrine of the Northern Alps, and the shrine at the summit of Mount Hotaka holds a symbolic presence.
At the summit of Mount Okuhotaka, a small shrine sits atop a cairn made of white stones, with a stone-built shrine and shrine marker placed beneath the cairn.
Many climbers take commemorative photos in front of this shrine, enjoying the panoramic views of the Hotaka mountain range, the Northern Alps, and distant views of the Southern Alps, Yatsugatake, and Mount Fuji.
