富士浅間神社奥の院

Fuji Sengen Shrine, located near the summit of Mt. Tanigawa, which straddles the border of Niigata and Gunma prefectures.
The Chūgū (middle shrine) is situated at the base of the mountain on the Gunma side, within the Tanigawa Hot Springs area.
Mt. Tanigawa is known for having one of the highest numbers of mountaineering accidents worldwide, but it has long been revered as a center of mountain worship.
The shrine building at the Chūgū is believed to have been constructed during the early Edo period by the Sanada clan, who were then the lords of Numata Castle.

About 100 meters north along the ridge from the Okino-Mimi peak of Mt. Tanigawa lies the Oku-no-in (inner shrine).
Previously, a sacred mirror representing the deity was enshrined here, but now only a small stone shrine remains.
