Summit of Kurumayama

車山神社

Located at the summit of Kurumayama, the highest peak of Kirigamine, which is one of Japan's 100 famous mountains.
At the summit, the shrine consists of a torii gate, a small shrine building resembling a stone hut, and four sacred pillars (Onbashira) surrounding them.

The Kirigamine area has a history of being protected as a pastureland by the local residents at the foot of the mountain.
Since ancient times, small shrines have been built to worship the mountain deities, ensure safety, and protect the area's work.
Today, Kurumayama, accessible via a ski lift, attracts tourists and residents for skiing and hiking, and the shrine continues to be dedicated to their safety.

The shrine holds a Komiya Festival in conjunction with the Onbashira Festival of Suwa Taisha, and due to its location at the summit, it is rare to witness the raising of the sacred pillars here.
