三条神社
3077-3 Irizawa, Usuda, Saku City
Situated on the eastern bank of the Chikuma River flowing from the south, this shrine stands west of the former site of Iriya Castle.
Originally called Hachiman Shrine, it enshrined Emperor Ojin and Empress Jingu. In 1908, it began enshrining Atsuta Jingu, the guardian deity of the Sanjo clan.
The entrance to the shrine grounds features a stone-made myojin torii gate.
The shrine building stands surrounded by greenery.
The shrine complex includes the main hall (honden) and its surrounding shelter.
The main hall, built in 1719, is a two-bay nagare-zukuri style structure, showcasing the typical architectural style from the Genbun to Kan'en eras.
The structure features cylindrical pillars set on octagonal bases, with colored carvings of elephants and tapirs adorning the head girders.
The front of the hall includes wooden steps, and the sides and front have verandas with railings designed with inverted lotus-shaped posts and fitted with sliding panels.
The roof is decorated with chigi and three katsuogi, with a boxed ridge and finned end tiles.
Despite some fading, the structure retains traces of original white pigment and red ochre coloring on its pillars and carvings.
