Castle of the Murakami Clan
Built at the foot of Katsurao Castle
During the Sengoku period, Sakaki Town was ruled by the Murakami Clan. Sakaki Shrine is built at the base of the mountain where Katsurao Castle, the residence of the warlord Murakami Yoshikiyo, who defeated Takeda Shingen twice, once stood.
Proceed along the straight path to the stone-paved shrine grounds. A stone Myojin torii gate, a sumo ring in front of the shrine, and wooden lion heads and demon masks, which are designated cultural properties of Sakaki Town, can be seen.
The main hall, standing behind the worship hall, is a copper-roofed single-bay nagare-zukuri structure, characterized by a light and slender design. While not heavily decorated, the hall features some remaining vermilion paint on the doors and blue coloring on parts such as the frog-leg struts and gable-end materials.
