若宮八幡神社
1215 Wada, Nagawa Town, Chiisagata District
This shrine is located slightly north of Nakasendo Wada-shuku and is also known for being the burial site of the Wada Castle lords, Oi Nobusada and his son, who ruled this area during the Sengoku period.
Surrounded by large cedar trees, the entrance to the shrine grounds, which faces the road, is marked by a stone Myojin torii gate.
The irimoya-style worship hall has no walls and is constructed with spaced wooden planks.
The thatched-roof irimoya-style structure at the back houses the main hall, built in 1721.
The main hall is a one-bay nagare-zukuri style building.
It features a surrounding veranda on the front and sides, with the railings using both corner posts and ornamental giboshi posts.
The side panels are decorated with geometric patterns called "waichimon" and carvings of six-petal flowers.
