Hachiman Shrine is located on the north side of Wada-shuku on the Nakasendo road, connecting the Higashi-Shin region and Suwa.
It is said to have been built to ward off evil for Wada Castle, which was ruled by the Oi clan until the Sengoku period, and enshrines Emperor Ojin.
The shrine grounds include a sumo ring, and the only shrine building is the worship hall integrated with the enclosure.
The worship hall with an irimoya-zukuri roof houses the main hall of the one-bay nagare-zukuri style.
The main hall is constructed from unfinished wood, with the tokin emblem on the frog-leg struts and the large pillar bundles shaped like a war fan.
