Onojinja

Ono Shrine is located in the post town of Ono in Shiojiri City. The shrine grounds are situated near the border between Shiojiri City and Tatsuya Town, adjacent to Yahiko Shrine. They are so close that they seem to share the same grounds.

Entering the shrine grounds, you will find a belfry housing a bell dedicated by Takeda Katsuyori in 1564 for victory in battle. The bell tower and Kagura hall stand with the main worship hall at the back.

The worship hall at the front of the grounds has a central area for offering sacred objects and side corridors. Although lacking intricate decorations or carvings, the layered roofs and copper roofing give the hall a grand appearance. The main hall behind it is surrounded by a fence, making it difficult to see closely.

In front of the main hall stands the Chokushiden, designated as a prefectural treasure. Although it was destroyed by fire in 1672, it was rebuilt the same year and retains its 17th-century style. The building is a Shikyakumon (four-legged gate) with a cypress bark roof now covered in copper.

The main hall, auxiliary hall, and Hachiman Shrine, all constructed in 1672 after a fire, are designated as prefectural treasures. These halls, featuring a flowing style with copper roofs, demonstrate the architectural style of the late 17th century, particularly in Nagano Prefecture.
