Are Shrine - Shiojiri City

Arei Shrine, located in a village near Shiojiri Pass, is an ancient shrine listed in the Engishiki.
It is said that Susanoo-no-Mikoto was enshrined at Mount Goiwatoyama, upstream of Shiozawa River in Shiojiri City, and that in the second year of Daido, Tamuramaro Sakanoue moved it to Myojin-daira, where the inner shrine is now located.
In the second year of Jōwa, the front shrine was built at Daimiya, enshrining Onamuchi-no-Mikoto and Homutawake-no-Mikoto together.

The main shrine is housed within a covering building and cannot be viewed from outside.
The architectural style consists of two nagare-zukuri style shrine buildings placed side by side, with a door between them for worshipping the inner shrine.
The three main shrines from the right are Omiya Hachimangu, Are Daimyojin, and Shiojiri Daimyojin.
