大宮熱田神社

The guardian deity of water, located in former Azusagawa Village.
Previously situated at the summit of Mt. Hongami, it was later relocated to its current position.
Built on an alluvial fan overlooking Matsumoto Plain, surrounded by orchards, it offers expansive views.
Situated 50 meters west of Salad Road in Azumino, the large torii gate marks the entrance.
The entrance is flanked by the largest fir tree in Nagano Prefecture, designated a natural monument.

Facing the approach is the Kaguraden.
The sound of the wind rustling through the shrine grove and the view of the auxiliary shrines and lanterns along the approach were lively and impressive.
Among the auxiliary shrines, Wakamiya Hachiman Shrine is a nationally designated Important Cultural Property, known as a Muromachi period structure.
It features Ryumisedana-zukuri with dimensions of approximately 1800 in depth and 1200 in width.
This architectural style is notable for its large scale and grandeur.

A large worship hall stands at the back of the shrine grounds.
The roof features katsuogi, and the front lower roof has chigi.
The impressive shrine structure, elevated on the grounds, invited me to stop and gaze in awe.
Inside the worship hall, a mirror reflects the outside light, creating a mystical atmosphere.

The main hall behind the worship hall is a one-bay Nagare-zukuri style.
Round pillars extend from the main hall to the eaves, standing on a foundation.
The design features many wood noses, and the decorative structures under the gables are advanced, but the absence of carvings suggests it dates from the mid to late Muromachi period.

大宮熱田神社

The vast shrine grounds, numerous auxiliary shrines, and the presence of the worship hall made for an impressive visit.
As a shrine in the Chushin area, it is very worthwhile to see.
While not as famous as Matsumoto Castle, it is a great choice for those interested in cultural properties.
