This shrine is located in the Himuro district of Matsumoto City, which was originally called Sumiyoshi-no-sho.
The land has a connection to the Harumiya of the Lower Shrine of Suwa Taisha, and it is said that the Lower Shrine was first enshrined here, followed by the Upper Shrine, and then three more shrines, leading to the name Gosha Shrine.
At the entrance to the shrine grounds, surrounded by lush cedar groves, stands a Myojin Torii.
The worship hall at the front is a hirairi gabled structure.
The worship hall is not symmetrical, with the front being shifted two bays to the right, possibly because it is connected to the shrine office on the left side of the shrine building.
The main hall behind the worship hall is a five-bay nagare-zukuri.
The tie beam of the gabled roof and the cambered rainbow beams connecting the inner and outer columns are decorated with arabesque engravings.
There are two distinctive features of this main hall not seen in other shrines: the use of triple-layered eaves rafters, with drooping eaves rafters extending in two tiers at the ends of the ground rafters, and the use of decorative supports under the secondary rainbow beams on the gabled sides.
