岩岡神社
3290 Azusagawa Yamato, Matsumoto City
Built near the Azusa River.
In the past, this area was frequently flooded by the Azusa River.
It is believed that the shrine was founded to avoid such damage.
In spring, the large cherry tree between the shrine and the Azusa River blooms, offering a view of the lingering snow on the Northern Alps.
In front of the large Ryobu torii at the entrance, there is a Hirairi-style worship hall.
Many shrines in the Matsumoto and Azumino areas have similar worship halls, with Hirairi-style gabled roofs and attached eaves.
The main hall behind is a small-scale single-bay nagare-zukuri with a copper roof.
Since the sides of the okiya (covering structure) are covered with plastic, the reflection of light makes it difficult to see the details inside, but it is said that the ridge tile has the three-leaved crest associated with Suwa shrines.
The shrine is adorned with intricate carvings, making it a small but impressive building.
