八幡宮
Hinata, Mitake, Kiso Town, Kiso District
Hachiman Shrine located in Hinata, Mitake Village, which merged with Kiso Town.
This area is a breeding ground for the rare bird, the Blue-and-White Flycatcher, and has been designated a national natural monument.
The shrine grounds are surrounded by large cypress and cedar trees, creating a rich green landscape along with the surrounding mountains.
Originally, the shrine enshrined Emperor Ojin as the guardian deity of the former Mio Village.
At the entrance to the shrine grounds stands a wooden Ryobu Torii.
The worship hall has a long gabled roof, and there are three shrine buildings behind it.
The main hall, built in 1848, is a single-bay Nagare-zukuri style.
It was constructed by Tokuji Tamaoka of the Tachikawa school and features intricate carvings on the side screens and rainbow beams.
The shrine, made of plain wood, stands in a very quiet location, exuding a solemn atmosphere.
