熊野神社
3319-1 Misato Akari, Azumino City
Kumano Shrine in Azumino City is surrounded by a lush grove of trees.
The 100-meter-long approach features a large torii gate and includes a kagura hall and a worship hall.
The worship hall is a flat-roofed structure similar to other nearby shrines in Azumino City, with the main hall located behind it.
The main hall, built in the mid-17th century, is a three-bay Kasuga-zukuri style structure with a roof that was originally shingled with cypress bark but now has copper plates.
The frog-leg struts on the front of the portico feature the shrine crest of a wrapped ginger plant, and the wood-carved noses are adorned with elephant motifs.
Adjacent to it is Yasaka Shrine, a single-bay nagare-zukuri style building.
It retains architectural styles from the period it was built, including the rainbow beams and wood noses.
It is considered the oldest structure in the area after the main hall of Kumano Shrine.
